Although I’m not completely done writing it yet (6 chapters left to go!) - the WordPress for Dummies book has been placed on sale at Amazon.com where you can pre-order the book, or add it to your Amazon.com Wish List. It’s due to be released in Sept. 2007, according to Amazon.Com — but I have a sneaky suspicion that it will be released sooner than that.

xMark Version 1.0.2 - Update Release
I’ve gotten some fabulous feedback since the initial release and since then I have made some minor, but important, updates to the theme. I’ve updated the zip file and the change log. Here are the updates in this release (and the most recent previous release, in case you didn’t catch those):
- Added the Comments RSS and Trackback link to the single post page
- Fixed the display of number of posts in a category in the side bar category listings
- Made a minor fix in the search feature
- Adjusted CSS to handle large images, wider than the post body
- Added plugin support for Related Entries plugin
- Added the ‘edit this’ link to posts, comments and pages
That should do it for now. Thanks, everyone, for all the great feedback!
Looking for a demo of the theme? You’re looking at it. Currently the xMark Blog Theme Site is using the current version of xMark. If you see something here on this main site that you’re not seeing in the theme files - it is probably because I am working on a new release, and I use this site as my sandbox. All theme features are tested here first before they are added to the official theme files.
WordPress for Dummies
As some of you may, or may not, know - I’m in the process of writing “WordPress for Dummies” for Wiley Publishing (the dummies people). They apparently thought I was a good candidate for the whole ‘Dummies’ process. When I told my Dad I was writing the book, his response was “Takes one to know one, sweetheart…” Ha - funny man, isn’t he?
Well, at any rate - I’m in the process of writing right now. The chapter I’m writing is called “Top Ten WordPress Plugins” (shhh - don’t tell my editors I’ve given away a chapter title!!) where I get the fun and excitement of giving out some well-deserved kudos to the developers of some of the more popular WordPress plugins out there.
As I’m writing this chapter, I’m installing and testing out all the possible options of these plugins - making sure I cover all bases (don’t want to let Dad down!). I’ve installed a plugin here this evening that I need to test out, and figured I’d also use it as a poll for anyone who happens to drop by. I need a good screenshot of a poll within a post, anyways. So here we go - using the Democracy AJAX Poll plugin - answer the poll, or add your own answer:
